Hold on tight, folks. We’re getting into some deep water here. But DO NOT panic. This is advanced stuff, but today’s class is a CONCEPT if you’re not ready for it. If you don’t have the first clue about HTML, then this class is going to be greek – and that’s OK. We’ll cover the ins and outs of HTML in the next module when we cover WordPress.

Facebook Custom Tabs is the topic today. I cover step by step (in just SEVEN minutes) how to add the application to your page, edit a page in WordPress (although you can use any website editor to do it) and then make that tab your landing page.

Here are a couple of things to note, that I didn’t mention in the video. You need to use an online editor so that your images are uploaded and available via a website address. You need to save the page so that they are accessible. I only had 7 minutes to tell you everything!

Finally, there are a lot of businesses out there that will do this for you if you don’t feel that you’re up to it. That’s OK. You still should understand how it works. There are companies that sell templates outright, and some that design the code and charge a monthly fee. If you want a couple of resources let me know in the forum and I’ll post them there.

Facebook has a fantastic – and vastly underused – feature. The friend management tool. Using this tool can help insure that you both see and distribute the right kind of content to your connections – whether business colleagues, local business contact, or your Aunt Sally.

Task:

Consider how your contacts naturally “fall” into groups. Some are old friends, some are colleagues, some might be acquaintances or part of a group or social club. Take 20 minutes and create new groups. Remember, people can be in more than one. Now, go through your list and categorize everyone into a group.

Remember to also categorize your pages – their posts will show on your wall so if you decide to filter what you see later, you’ll need to have them categorized.
